Staedion

Summary
Staedion was created in 1999 after a merger between three housing corporations; De Algemene Woningbouwvereniging, De Goede Woning and Patrimonium.
Staedion is among the ten largest housing corporations in the Netherlands. It is also the largest housing corporation in The Hague, with more than 33,000 rental houses and 3500 business properties, shop spaces, car parks and garages, which represent a value in the region of 1.2 billion Euros. The personnel consist of 430 employees. The annual operating turnover is approximately 190 million Euros.

Challenge and opportunities
Due to business time constraints, a number of the project components must be implemented sooner than originally estimated.

Implementation highlights
Firstly, a redundant Windows Active Directory is constructed and planned in accordance with the Tri-ennium GME standard. A central file cluster is installed to store business data. The Citrixfarm is constructed using twelve servers. This takes into consideration the reservation of Citrix servers for testing and acceptation purposes, whereby the user load can be easily spread over other Citrix servers.

Applications that were being used have been rationalised, which has resulted in a subset of applications. These applications are packaged in Microsoft Windows Installer format and have been installed on the Citrix servers.
The five locations have been transferred to the new environment - one location per week. This has been realised by re-constructing the work stations using the Tri-ennium GME OS SETUP concept. At the same time, the data from that location is migrated to the file/print cluster.
In between the migrations, radius connections have been replaced by KPN One fibre glass connections.

Implementation time and partner
On-going project for 3-6 months in partnership with DSA-Vision.

Why Tri-ennium?
The solution proposed by Tri-ennium contains an all-inclusive concept; everything is covered, from the server to the workplace. Tri-ennium has compiled a proposal, whereby the Novell e-Directory environment - with unsupported work stations and de-central servers for file and print activities - would be migrated to a Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory environment.

What are the immediate results?
-  simplification of managerial activities;
-  reduction in infrastructure complexity;
-  more secure work stations.

What are the long-term results?
-  reduction in helpdesk calls;
-  better workplace security and minimisation of risks from illegal software.
